Ahoy there, matey -
Let's have some fun
Here are some great ideas for you and your friends. For your next party you can have a costume contest, have treasure hunt and march in a pirate parade.
Want to look like a pirate?
It's easy. You can piece together an outfit from a few simple clothes, just as pirates did in the past. You need:

a hat or bright scarf to wear on your head
an eye patch | |
a colorful shirt or t-shirt
a long scarf for a waist sash
long stockings or a pair of very old jeans (cut to the knee)
boots or plain shoes | |
a long cardboard tube for a sword or spyglass |
Use the pictures in this site to help you dress up. You can use red paint from your water colors to create war wounds. You can be a neat, messy, fearsome or funny-looking pirate. Once you are dressed, create a pirate name that describes your personality.
Fly
a pirate flag.
Making a pirate flag is easy. You need:
a black rectangle of fabric or paper
white fabric or paper | |
a stick and some string | |
scissors and white glue |
You can either paint the pirate symbols on to your fabric or paper, or you can cut out the symbols from a piece of white fabric or paper and glue them on to your flag. Then make 2 holes on one side of the flag and tie it to a stick with some string. You are ready to wave your flag.
Need
a chest for your treasures.
You need:
a shoe box with a removable lid
wide clear tape | |
paints and brushes | |
a water can for your brushes |
Paint your shoe box and lid to look like a treasure chest (black or brown are good colors to use). Once the paint is dry, tape one edge of the lid to the box. Fill your chest with your special treasures.
Make
a treasure map.
This is a great game for when you have a party. You need:
a piece of yellow paper | |
crayons or markers | |
scissors |
Fill your treasure chest with something special, maybe a toy or some candy. Hide it somewhere in your room, house or yard.
On a piece of paper, draw a picture of the area where the treasure is hidden.
Mark the spot where the treasure is located with an X, and draw what direction the person must travel, and any dangers along the way.
Make your map look old and weathered by crinkling and folding it and snipping small bits from the edges.
